Red Aglaonema Description

Aglaonema Suksom Jaipong3

Red Aglaonema has deep red/pink leaves with green edges, which will catch your eyes at first sight. Colorful Aglaonema leaves are lance or heart-shaped and grow between 10~30cm long and between 5-10cm wide. There are many leafy pattern variations on red Aglaonema plants. Red colors contrast with dark green glossy leaves. Some red Agalonema have shiny red leaves with green margins(e.g. Suksom, Red beauty, etc..). Some Aglaonema have shiny green leaves with red speckles instead (e.g. Stardust).

According to some scientific research, Aglaonema are natural air purifiers. They can help reduce levels of toxic chemicals such as toluene, xylene, benzene, and formaldehyde. They are also very   easy-care and match most home interior decoration.

Light: It doesn't need natural light to thrive. It is just fine with indoor fluorescent lighting. To grow the Aglaonema in low to medium, indirect sunlight, too much sunlight will burn the plant.

Water: Water Aglaonema when the soil is partially dry (1-2 week basis or much longer, it depends). Put your finger into topsoil or use moisture meter, if you are not detecting any moisture, then it’s the right time to water the Aglaonema thoroughly & evenly. It’s very important to avoid splashing the leaves when watering. Overwatering will lead to Aglaonema root rot, dark spots & brown tips on the leaves. Underwatering will be easy to make the bottom leaves turn yellow. Also if humidity is below 25-30%, Aglaonema will show brown tips on the leaves. The ideal humidity is at least 60%. It’s common for Aglaonema to go dormant in the wintertime. Watering frequency should be spaced out as they don’t have more needs on water during dormant period.

Temperature: These tropical Aglaonem prefer even, warm temperatures when growing at home. The ideal growth temperature for Aglaonema is 20~30℃, and it is not cold resistant. In winter, it’s better to keep it over 8℃. Too low temperature might lead to leaves fallen off, root rot & get dying easily. So it’s better to keep Aglaonema away from cold or hot stuff.

Soil: Aglaonema lives well in a loose, peat-based potting mixed media that has excellent drainage.  A good soil will contain lots of organic matter helps a lot with well-draining.
