Adenium obesum, also known as the Desert Rose, is a species of flowering succulent plant that is native to the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It is a slow-growing succulent shrub or small tree with a thick, swollen trunk that stores water.

It has leathery, glossy green leaves and produces beautiful, trumpet-shaped flowers in various colors such as pink, red, white, purple, yellow and combinations, etc... 

Key Characteristics

  • Leaves: Dark green, thick, and oblong in shape.
  • Growth: It can grow to be a small tree up to 3 meters tall, but in cultivation, it is often kept much smaller.
  • Light: Prefers bright, direct sunlight, full sun is ideal, some partial shade can be tolerated.
  • Water: Moderate watering, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can be detrimental.
  • Temperature: Ideal temperature range is between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) and is not cold-hardy.
